macheteMACHETE is a contemporary art gallery based in Christiansted, St. Croix. Its focus is contemporary art by young artists. The gallery also functions as a community space, hosting workshops, artist residency programs and fun weekly social events such as potlucks and improv nights. The gallery features a lending library and reading lounge, local crafts and jewelry and homemade Sweetface organic chocolate. macheteMACHETE holds opening receptions for its monthly shows on Art Thursdays. Gallery Director Francis Thomas Capone has a BFA in Visual Arts from Rutgers University, with a concentration in photography. He’s known for his  documentary photography and constructs handmade instruments.  You can see his work at franciscapone.com

Gallery Programmer Alisha Westerman was born on St. Croix, and has a BA in Literature from UC Santa Barbara’s College of Creative Studies.  She is a writer and performer, chocolatier and Reiki practitioner.  You can learn more about her work at alishawesterman.com.
